Start with the Essentials

Our one-day Beginner Glass Workshops are hosted in partnership with Sydney Community College, and are typically hosted once every month. To book, please click the link below to register through the Sydney Community College website, which also features additional information about course content and learning outcomes.

All other studio glass courses we offer other than our one-day Beginner Workshops are to be booked directly through this site. If you already have some experience with kiln-formed studio glass, you might be interested in browsing our other workshops.

Please keep in mind that due to the kiln-firing process required to produce glass artworks, objects made in class are not taken home on the day, and instead scheduled to be collected from Studio4 typically 2 weeks following the date of your course.

Our Beginner Studio Glass Workshops are designed to provide an introduction into the key processes involved in kiln-formed studio glass.

If you’re new to working with glass and kiln-firing techniques, this course is an ideal starting point to begin gaining important foundational skills, processes, and concepts related to the artform. Glass has an extensive history and is an incredibly versatile medium. It can be engaged with through a variety of methods - hot glass, warm glass, coldworking, bending, and beyond - and while our workshops introduce participants to a great range of kiln-based techniques, our activities in the studio cover just one corner of what there is to experience with glass.

In our beginner course, you will be introduced to essential tools and techniques to work with sheet class and create your own compositions, beginning with glass platters and decorative objects. No prior experience or knowledge is required and all teaching is conducted under the guidance of a practicing glass artist, in an active, professional studio setting.

If you have not yet had experience with kiln-formed studio glass and/or cutting glass, then it is recommended to undertake this one-day course prior to continuing with the rest of the program.
