Pâte de Verre Workshop - One Day

Pâte de Verre Workshop - One Day
Workshop Dates for 2025:
JULY 26th
9am - 4:00pm
Learn a specialsied kiln-form glass technique in this one-day course on Pâte de Verre!
Translating to “Glass Paste”, this technique involves sculpting, manipulating, and pressing crushed glass frit and powder mixed with a liquid binder into moulds, which are fired in a kiln. This technique allows for precise colour application and intricate designwork, offering more control over pattern than casting, and provides a unique, glittery, granular finish unachievable in typical fused and slumped creations.
In this workshop, students will work with Pâte de Verre to design and create up to two sculptures or platters, using ceramic moulds available in the studio.
Core Techniques:
• How to work with Pâte de Verre
• Kiln Firing Schedules
• Health and safety
Materials provided:
• All required tools (moulds)
• All safety equipment (safety glasses, masks, gloves, etc)
• Artistic materials (glass frit and powder, binding medium, drawing materials for planning, etc)
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, each student will know:
• How to create glass artwork using Pâte de Verre
• Kiln programs and firing schedules applicable to learned techniques
• Appropriate health and safety procedures when handling the medium
Students will need to return the following week to collect the artwork made during the class. As work will need to be fired in the kiln overnight, workshop participants should not expect to go home with their work at the end of the session. You will be contacted via email when your work is ready to collect.
Please be sure to bring the following:
• Covered shoes
• Old clothes and/or apron
• Hair ties if required
• Pens and pencils
• Notebook
• Ideas and images for inspiration
• Packed lunch – fridge and microwave available (tea and coffee provided)
Please note - all of our workshops have a minimum class size of 6 and a maximum of 10. Workshops may be rescheduled if minimum attendance cannot be reached. You will be notified by email in advance, should such circumstances arise.
