Welcome to the Masterclass

If you’ve aced our other courses so far and are hungry for more, or you’re an artist with experience you want to expand on - this five-day hands-on advanced course will provide a whole new range of skills to transfer images onto glass to produce intricate, highly-detailed results.

This five-day intensive workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of a range of techniques to translate photographic and high-detail digital images into kiln-formed studio glass.

The workshop will focus primarily on screen printing and layering of detailed imagery within fused glass sculptural blocks. Surface treatment will also be explored.

Techniques to be covered include:

• Preparing photographic and digital imagery for screen printing

• Translating photographic imagery onto silk screens successfully

• Screen printing high-fire enamels onto glass for fusing

• Use of light-sensitive photographic sandblasting resists

• Firing approaches and schedules

Workshop Preparation:

Each student will need to bring along a selection of photographic imagery in digital format to work with on the computer. Images should be of a reasonable resolution and can be in either colour, or black-and-white format.

Ideally, bring your images to the workshop USB stick/pocket hard drive with a range of photographic imagery on it – as outlined above.

Content and style of images can be anything of interest artistically, ie: landscapes, portraits, textures, patterns, etc. It is also possible to bring images of drawings, illustrations and/or paintings.
