Explore the diverse world of Contemporary Kiln Formed Glass in this exciting two-day Kiln-Casting Workshop
This dynamic course will equip students with a new range of kiln-casting skills to broaden their repertoire of studio glass techniques, whilst fostering each individual’s artistic direction in glass.
Students will be encouraged to draw on their own creative ideas and interests to dive into a sculptural casting project.
During this two-day course, students will sculpt up to 2 small (maximum dimensions 10×10×10cm) forms from clay, and learn how to translate them into cast glass creations. Day one will focus on sculpting forms for casting, mould preparation, and calculating glass quantities for casting, while day two will involve divesting the castings from their moulds post-firing, and learning how to clean and coldwork the finished artwork.
Core Techniques Covered Include:
• Clay sculpting
• Introduction to plaster-silica mould making and preparation
• Introduction to basic ‘cold working’ processes
• Kiln Firing Schedules
• Health and safety
If you would like to strengthen your unique artistic style in glass whilst learning a range of new techniques, then this is the course for you!
Materials provided:
• All tools (sculpting tools, measuring equipment, drawing equipment, etc)
• All safety equipment (safety glasses, P2 masks, etc)
• All artistic materials (glass for casting, silica flour, plaster flour, clay, etc)
Learning Outcomes:
