Learn how to translate images and drawings onto glass in this exciting and creative two-day workshop.
This course sits at the intersection between image, illustration, and sculpture, wherein you can learn how to design, print and fire your own unique image composition onto glass surfaces - a versatile technique with the potential to expand further and incorporate it into other glass processes in the future.
The first day of this course will revolve around drawing designs, exploring in-house materials, image transfer, and screen preparation, while day two the following weekend revolves around printing onto glass and layering designs onto glass surfaces for fusing. Come to class with ideas prepared, ready to discuss and explore.
This course is beginner-friendly and will include hands-on technique demonstration and guidance along with kiln fusing basics, health and safety information, and extensive instructions for how to work with all materials provided.
If you are an image maker wanting to move into an interdisciplinary practice, or maybe would like to strengthen your unique artistic style in glass whilst learning a range of new techniques, then this is the course for you!
Core Techniques Covered Include:
• Preparing images for exposure onto silk screens
• Preparing silk screens for image exposure using light-sensitive emulsion
• Exposing images onto silk screens
• Printing onto glass with hi-fire enamels
• Fusing imagery onto glass and draping glass into forms
Materials provided:
• All tools and equipment (screens, drawing equipment, exposure unit, dark room etc.)
• All safety equipment (safety glasses, P2 masks, etc)
• All artistic materials (screens, emulsions, drawing materials, enamel, glass etc.)
